Imatta Junior, parenting support chat — privacy notice
Draft v0.1, 2026-05-26. Pending review by the imatta DPO and clinical lead. Not yet active for real parents.
This page tells you what happens to the information you share with the Imatta Junior parent support chat. We have written it in plain English. If anything is unclear, please contact us at the address at the bottom.
In one paragraph
When you use the Imatta Junior chat, an AI assistant tries to help you with parenting questions. The information you give us, your first name, your email, an optional mobile number, and your children's first names and ages, is stored so the assistant can give you more personal support, and so we can put you in touch with a real therapist if you want to book a session. We keep that information for 12 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner. We never sell it, and we never use it for advertising. You can delete everything at any time by clicking "Manage my data" in the chat, or by emailing us.
What we collect from you
When you sign in to the chat, we ask for:
- Your first name (so the assistant can address you by name)
- Your email address (so we can contact you about an appointment if you book one, and so you can come back to the same chat from a different device once we add that feature)
- A mobile phone number (optional, only for appointment reminders if you book a therapist)
- Your postcode (we use it to find your child's school in a list and to know which local authority area you're in for reports to councils and schools. We only keep the first part of your postcode, e.g. "SW1A", which covers thousands of homes; the full postcode you type is used only at that moment to look up your area and your school)
- Your child's school (chosen from a list based on your postcode, so reports to councils and schools can show patterns specific to that school. Optional — you can skip if your school isn't listed)
- How many children you have, and each child's first name and age (so the assistant can talk about them by name instead of "your child", and so we can suggest age-appropriate ideas)
When you chat, we also store:
- The questions you ask, and the assistant's replies (this is logged so a clinician can review a sample of conversations during the pilot to make sure the assistant is being safe and helpful, and so we can improve it)
- Technical information about your visit (timestamp, which AI model answered, how long it took). We do not store your IP address or browser fingerprint.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not ask for your full address.
- We do not ask for your child's school, doctor, or medical history.
- We do not ask you to sign in with a password, Facebook, Google, or any other account.
- We do not use cookies to track you across other websites. The chat saves only a small identifier in your browser so you can come back to the same conversation; that identifier is meaningless to any website other than ours.
Why we collect it (lawful basis)
Under UK GDPR we need a lawful basis to collect personal information. For most of what we collect (your name, email, mobile, questions), we rely on your explicit consent, which is the green button you click before the first question.
The information about your children, in the context of a wellbeing and parenting chat, counts as special category data under UK GDPR Article 9. For that we rely on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a). You can withdraw consent at any time, see "Your rights" below.
How long we keep it
By default, we keep your family information and chat history for 12 months from your last visit. After 12 months we delete it automatically.
If you would like us to delete it sooner, you can do so at any time, see "Your rights".
If you delete your family record, all your chat history is deleted with it.
Who can see it
- The AI assistant (operated by Anthropic through their Claude API on imatta's behalf). Anthropic processes your messages to generate replies. They do not train their AI models on your data. Their privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Voyage AI for the bit of the system that searches our trusted source library. They see only the wording of your questions, briefly, to compute a search query. They do not store it. Their privacy policy: https://www.voyageai.com/privacy.
- postcodes.io when you register your postcode. It's a free open-source service derived from UK government data. It receives only the postcode you type, returns the area name + an area code, and stores nothing on its side. More info: https://postcodes.io.
- A clinician working with imatta, who reviews a small sample of conversations during the pilot to keep us safe and helpful.
- The small Imatta Junior engineering and product team (admin role: usage and safety aggregates, not the wording of your conversations) and a named clinician (clinician role: reads transcripts for the weekly safety review the DPIA requires). Every view of identifiable family data or chat content is recorded in an internal audit log. We never share your data with anyone else for marketing or research.
We host the service on Vercel (London region) and store the database on Neon (Frankfurt). Both are processors only, not controllers.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use any cookies. We do save a single small piece of information in your browser called "imatta-junior:familyId". It is a long random number that tells the chat which family record to load when you come back. Clearing your browser data clears it. The identifier is meaningless to any website other than ours.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See what we hold about you. Click "Manage my data" in the chat, or email us at the address below.
- Correct anything that's wrong. Email us, or just sign in to the chat and update it.
- Delete everything. Click "Manage my data" → "Delete my data" in the chat. This is immediate and final.
- Withdraw your consent. Same as deleting your data: it stops all future processing.
- Complain to the regulator. You have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.
This is an AI assistant, not a clinician
The chat is an AI assistant. It can give you general parenting information and signposts, drawn from clinician-approved sources like the NHS. It cannot diagnose, prescribe, or replace a real clinician. When the situation needs a human, the chat will tell you and offer to book a session with an imatta therapist.
If you or your child are in danger, please contact a real human now:
- 999 for immediate danger
- NSPCC helpline 0808 800 5000
- Childline 0800 1111
- Samaritans 116 123
- Your GP, or your child's school safeguarding lead
Who we are, and how to contact us
The data controller is imatta (the company behind the Imatta Junior programme).
- For privacy questions or to exercise your rights: privacy@imatta.com (address to be confirmed)
- Data Protection Officer: name and contact (to be confirmed before launch)
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice in a way that affects you, we'll tell you the next time you open the chat and ask you to read the new version.
